In 2020, the European assets of Segezha Group, involved in the production of paper packaging, Segezha Packaging (the holding company Arka Merchants Ltd.), have achieved EcoVadis Gold Level for the first time.
EcoVadis is an international platform that evaluates corporate, social, and environmental responsibility. In 2018 and 2019, Segezha Packaging was awarded the Silver Level. Based on the results of the “silver” audit that it underwent a year ago, the company took steps to increase the impact of its corporate and social responsibility programs.
“The 2020 audit shows that the European affiliates of Segezha Group have achieved EcoVadis Gold Level, scoring an outstanding 67 points. The ratings in the Environment, Sustainable Procurement, and other categories beat the last year's results by 7 points. “Gold” means that we are among the top 5 of companies that have been accredited by the platform,” said Rinat Stark, CEO of Segezha Packaging.
In 2020, EcoVadis assessed performance in four categories of corporate and social responsibility: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. The experts studied the strategies of the company relevant to those categories, their practical implementation, and the results obtained. EcoVadis highlighted the transition of Segezha Packaging's paper bag enterprise in Denmark to wind power as a major achievement.
EcoVadis focuses on improving the companies' performance in environmental protection, business ethics, and global supply chain practices. Their methodology is built on international corporate social responsibility standards that reflect the guidelines set by the United Nations Global Compact, the conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ISO 26000's guidance on sustainable development, and the CERES Roadmap (Coalition of Environmentally Responsible Economies).
