Segezha Group, according to the roadmap of the company's Environmental Safety Strategy until 2025, implemented 139 environmental measures worth about RUB 7 billion In 2021.
The focus is on improving energy efficiency, modernizing production facilities, producing products with a minimum carbon footprint, replacing diesel equipment with electric, as well as transferring all boilers from fuel oil to biofuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In total, the company has 84 boilers. More than half of them have already been transferred to bark-wood waste.
A program has also been developed for all the Group's enterprises to reduce the carbon footprint associated with third-party power generation. So, for a year and a half, the Segezha Group reduced the corresponding financial expenses by 209 million rubles. At the same time, the energy savings amounted to 4394 MW/h. It is significant that only 19.6 million rubles were allocated for the lighting of the enterprise before optimization, and after that – 5.6 million rubles.
At the same time, the load on air, water and soil is reduced in the Group of Companies. New electric filters are being installed at the enterprises, treatment facilities are being modernized, sawmill waste is being disposed of, the degree of closure of the production cycle is increasing, including by returning used water to production. Technological solutions for the disposal of foul-smelling gases at the Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill are being prepared for implementation.
Segezha Group launched the final stage of its long-term environmental programme to overhaul soda recovery boilers and replace electrostatic precipitators at Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill. The total project cost is approximately RUB 2 billion. The environmental programme will significantly reduce the mill's environmental footprint. The company's new filters will provide almost absolute limestone particle entrapment, more than 99%.
