Detsky Mir launches Zoozavr
Detsky Mir, the leading Russian retailer of children goods and a Sistema portfolio company, has launched Zoozavr, a new store format targeted at pet owners, marking an entry to a market worth more than RUB 200bn annually in Russia. Data by INFOline Analytics suggests that the Russian market for pet services rose by 10% y-o-y, reaching RUB 185 bn in 2017. Industry experts suggest that the market is heavily fragmented, as the top-5 retailers control only 10% of the market.
The first standalone store, located inside the Global City shopping center (Dnepropetrovskaya St., 2, Moscow), boasts retail space of 200 sqm and offers a full range of pet supplies, including food, medical and veterinary drugs, cosmetics, hygiene and grooming products. The launch contributes to Detsky Mir’s efforts to diversify its business, which will enable high growth rates in the coming years.
According to Yandex analytics, the demand for pet products online, as measured by the number of clicks in the category, rose year-on-year by 41% in September 2017. Detsky Mir is catering to the online audience with the simultaneous launch of a dedicated pet products section of its online store.
Detsky Mir, Russia’s largest specialized children’s goods retailer currently operates a network of 610 stores in Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as 54 Early Learning Centers and two ABC stores in Russia. The total selling space as of 30 September 2018 was approximately 714,000 sq m.
Detsky Mir recently reported its 9M 2018 results, confirming its status as a leading player in the children’s goods market in Russia and Kazakhstan. For the period, Detsky’s total Group unaudited revenue increased by 14.9% year-on-year to RUB 76.6 bn, while online revenue increased by 94.7% year-on-year to RUB 5.1 bn, making www.detmir.ru one of the fastest growing e-commerce websites in Russia.
Detsky Mir continued its expansion and opened 37 new branded stores in 9M 2018 and is on track to opening at least 100 stores in 2018, with most scheduled to launch in Q4, during the peak sales season.
